This past Thursday we got our first snow of the season here in NYC. It was magical and lovely and I didn't want it to stop.

Since the school where I work declared the day an official snow day (eek! my first in many years because Pittsburgh doesn't ever stop for snow) I took a trip downtown to experience a few of the city's Christmastime sights!

First, Wednesday evening in my neighborhood as the snow was starting.

Central Park after snow.

I mean... I really love it here.

Apparently this year people needed to get tickets to see the tree at Rockefeller Center but.... this was good enough for me!

Can't get any more New York at Christmas than the light show at Saks Fifth Avenue. I got chills standing on the corner feeling like, 'omg pinch me I finally LIVE HERE'.

I hope these seasonal sights have brought you a bit of joy on this Winter Solstice. Sending you much love.

Having already made it to December 1st I feel strange recounting Thanksgiving as it already seems like it could be so far in the past. But here I am recounting the past holiday and simultaneously saying.... HOLY CRAP HOW IS IT DECEMBER?!

Thanksgiving

Because my parents and I decided not to travel this year for Covid safety reasons, I stayed in NYC with my boyfriend, Chris, and our room mate and we had a sweet little dinner on Friday.

I attempted roasted whole fish. (did you know fish are bony? oh man, I need to learn the proper way to eat a fish without getting many little bones in every bite.) I'll give myself a thumbs up for taste though....

The apple pie however, was not bony at all. Samin's all-butter pie dough wins again!

(See cherry pie post from last summer)

but like, how is it December already?!

Just a few days shy of 4 months in New York and I'm so glad I made this move. Yeah, it's weird ass times. Yes, I miss my parents SO MUCH and am very sad that I won't see them this holiday season. Absolutely, I ride the train every day and it's usually full enough to not allow for proper social distancing.

But for the first time in a long time I'm not trying to get to somewhere else because I'm right where I've wanted, and maybe needed, to be.

More soon. xoxo,

T

Whew! it's been a while!

You know that feeling where the longer you don't call someone the easier it is to just not call? Yeah.... I think I did that to my blog and to YOU. I'm sorry :(

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving Week. I hope everyone is staying as safe as possible during this time. I have made the difficult decision to stay in NYC for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year in the interest of keeping myself AND my parents as healthy and Covid free as possible. Sadly, both my parents and I don't feel it's in anyone's best interest to travel for the holidays this year.

In other news, I've been working as a classroom assistant at a private elementary school in NYC for about a month now and it's going quite well. I have been assigned to a kindergarten class and they are so wonderful to work with. Until starting this job, I didn't realize how much I have missed teaching kids that age!

You're probably wondering, 'I thought NYC schools have closed again!?'

Well yes, the PUBLIC schools have been switched to remote learning once again but private schools don't follow those same guidelines. So far we are still open! (fingers crossed)

The classes go through rotating Covid testing each week so that everyone in the school is tested twice a month. So far so good!

I have so much more to tell. Maybe I'll just have to get writing!

More soon. I promise.
